Mary K, just like her sister, made for the neon stage, pictured in the paper on the verge of turning eight. What a lovely age were it not today that she dug a grave, fitted for a misfit missing half of a leg.

Sissy's sixteen in May, or at least that's what it would be. Such a disappointment wasn't she?

At the funeral for Eliza, Mother Superior said she died a sinner in God's eyes, a fornicating, shameless girl, and Mary had to listen.

Service commenced at noon, so everyone was in the neon sun. Children from the school sit in a line right up front, followed by the nuns all painted stern. Mary waits her turn to sit through some appraisal of the virtue she has learned.

"Look down, Mary dear, see the devil you should know and fear."

Goodbye sister, she will miss you. Close the casket so she can't kiss you
goodnight.
